Beyond I have been developing the practice of 'Beyond' since 2011. 'Beyond' is a cutting-edge proposal for new practice which is concerned with truth, authenticity, self, being and going beyond what you thought physically, vocally and emotionally possible. 'Beyond' is a practice which holds at its very heart, the performer, the audience and their consciousness and is receiving much international critical acclaim from performers and academics alike. Research outcomes have included new performance works which have toured the UK, Czech Republic and Netherlands; a large-scale immersive performance event in an unused building in Bristol; two new papers which I presented at the International Conference of Consciousness, Theatre, Literature and the Arts; a series of new masterclasses which I delivered across Europe. Getting Out of the Box - How to Survive as a Dance Artist... In autumn 2016 I facilitated five survival events across the UK - hosted by Pavilion Dance South West, Yorkshire Dance and Barnsley Civic, South East Dance, Theatre Bristol and Trinity Centre, and Dance 4. The free events were an opportunity for artists, venues, producers, programmers and funders to have authentic conversations, to play with thinking in new ways and to consider how we can work together in order to survive and thrive. Over 50 inspiring dance legends (including Liz Aggiss, Charlotte Vincent, Theo Clinkard, Ben Duke, Jean Abreu and many more) shared their OOTB stories in person and through survival letters, and artists were given time and space to think about their own journey. Topics included: touring, funding, health and wellbeing, networking, parenthood, and generally how to keep going when it starts to feel tough.
